Obama’s speaking is whatever is the direct opposite of monotone

Filed under: Bush, life, mideast, news, politics — gasdocpol @ 1:20 pm

When Barack Obama speaks , the cadence and tone change and certain words are emphasized. It sounds as if what he is saying is coming from his brain which understands the significance of every word and idea he utters. Consequently, profound extra dimensions are added to his words. Speechwriters cannot write that into a speech.

Ronald Reagan, an experienced actor, could deliver lines very effectively. GW Bush reads a teleprompter well. Even Hillary , who has a good grasp of what she is talking about, lacks the poetry that flows so effortlessly from Obama. Edwards whose only experience consists of running for President and suing doctors nonetheless from his courtroom experience has develloped some of what Obama has.

  1. I agree that his tone changes and maybe cadence as well but I think it is determined by the audience he is speaking to.

He sounds different when at a Southside of Chicago Baptist Church speaking to the congegation than he does when on a television talk show. Is he a master at it, sort of I think. I would not say the words “flow so effortlessly” because if he is asked a question he does not know the answer to he stumbles. If he going on a prepared speech he does have the practice time and then the tone and cadence are there.

    Just my opinion…

  2. “If he is asked a question he stumbles” ?

In real life, no one even the smartest among us can give an organized answer off the top of their heads to all complicated questions. That is, unless the question has already been dealt with or the answer memorized.

Our “debate” format can give some indication of how a candidate organizes his thoughts and expresses him (her) self, but problems are rarely if ever solved in that sort of format.

I don’t think that Obama rehearses his speeches much if at all.
