MORE OF WHAT OBAMA SAID IN OCTOBER 2002 ABOUT DUMB WARS

Filed under: BARACK OBAMA, Bush, life, mideast, news, politics, war — gasdocpol @ 12:59 pm

“I don’t oppose all wars. And I know that in this crowd today, there is no shortage of patriots, or of patriotism. What I am opposed to is a dumb war. What I am opposed to is a rash war. What I am opposed to is the cynical attempt by Richard Perle and Paul Wolfowitz and other arm-chair, weekend warriors in this Administration to shove their own ideological agendas down our throats, irrespective of the costs in lives lost and in hardships borne.

What I am opposed to is the attempt by political hacks like Karl Rove to distract us from a rise in the uninsured, a rise in the poverty rate, a drop in the median income – to distract us from corporate scandals and a stock market that has just gone through the worst month since the Great Depression.

That’s what I’m opposed to. A dumb war. A rash war. A war based not on reason but on passion, not on principle but on politics.”

Hillary Clinton, of course, disagreed with that and she voted for a dumb war.

  1. I am a retired nurse in NYS. I am a white woman with 3 grandchildren. If Obama loses to the Clintons I fear I willl never see the United States united. I want to see someone as president that my grandchildren can look up to and respect. I want to see someome that the world around us will respect. I want to see someone as president of the USA that will THINK before he opens his/her mouth. I want someone who knows that what efects one segement of the population effects all. When a woman becomes president I want someone who will be respected and a role model for all. The Clintons are embarrassments to us the world over and represent all that is wrong.

  2. Maryblu,

You may have seen my post this AM about the NY Times endorsement of Hillary which addresses some of your concerns.

I made a total of 5 trips to Iowa from Central Illinois to trudge through the snow door to door freezing my butt off campaigning for Obama.

I hope that Americans get it right this time.
