I do not agree with everything he said but those snippets that were taken out of context and played out of context on TV were as misleading as the lies that got us into the Iraq fiasco.

If those kind of lies persist GOD HELP THE UNITED STATES OF AMERICA.

  1. After hearing those snippets taken out of context played and replayed ad nauseum, I assumed that Rev. Wright was a well-meaning asshole who was demonstrating the law of unintended results.

After watching this lengthy interview, I have come away with a totally different impression. Rev. Wright is an intelligent and learned, skilled orator. He made valid points that we all should reflect upon and if we do not, it will be at our own peril.

Those snippets, played out of context, were just as misleading as the reasons that were given to Americans for invading Iraq.

I would submit that anyone who watches this interview and continues to condemn Wright actually would prefer that the USA to be a dictatorship rather than a democracy.

  2. The question posed is: In his recent, controversial sermon before the congregation of the Trinity

United Church of Christ in Chicago, Illinois; were Reverend Wright’s words taken out of context,

resulting in an inaccurate and unfair characterization of him, both as an individual and as a citizen alike?

Yes; I most certainly believe that Reverend Wright’s comments were taken out of context. In fact, I think that Reverend Wright’s sermons have been terribly distorted by the media. Furthermore, it’s absolutely clear to me from the video that Reverend Wright has been completely misrepresented. However, I don’t believe that Reverend Wright has been unfairly villified for his comments; rather, I believe that he has been unjustifiably praised for them.

Among other things, the video of Reverend Wright’s sermon demonstrates clearly and succinctly

that Reverend Wright is a selfish, arrogant, ill-informed, rude, melodramatic, verbally-abusive,

malcontented anarchist; a man Hell-bent upon tearing apart the social fabric of our great nation and elevating what he sees as the superior-but-oppressed black race – or, his people – to a position of dominance over what he sees as the inferior-but-oppressive white race – or, the tyrranical perpetuators of greed, hopelessness and genocide.

Among the many egregious, terrible messages Reverend Wright’s sermon delivers; he repeatedly

incites black hatred of the white race – especially with respect to his accusations of war-mongering

for profit and political oppression as a means of establishing control over minorities. Generally ,
Reverend Wright’s sermon viciously maligns America’s institution of democratic government – including our freely-elected leadership…America’s honorable institutions of military service – including our service men and

women who are at this very moment risking their lives on our behalf…and shamelessly exploits

the Christian Bible…arguably the most revered spiritual text on Earth – in order to deceive his audience and

manipulate them into believing that America is a monstrous nation, intent on destroying all other nations and

races of people who are not aligned with the absurd social notions and political ideals that he implies are held by the majority of human beings.

Reverend Wright exemplifies the worst in racial malevolence and venomous speech that America

could possibly inflict on the rest of the world at this difficult time in history. Fortunately, America will continue to produce great citizens and selfless leaders who will largely ignore spiteful, slanderous characters like Reverend Wright, and instead bring us through these trying times, while working tirelessly to inspire us toward growth and development into a nation that carries the torch of Freedom, Liberty, Equality, Prosperity, Peace and Love…therein lighting a righteous path which the majority of nations and races will continue to follow for generations to come.

Thank you for your articulate response to my posting.

Apparently you are very proud of the genicide and exploitation of Native Americans and our invasion of an oil rich Arab country which had not attacked us and was no danger to us. You probasbly feel that 9/11 was a cowardly unprovoked attack against the USA. You might even think that the reason that they hate us is because of our freedom.

Personally, I never cared much for Jesse Jackson, disliked Al Sharpton a lot and was never enthusiastic about MLK. Before watching the Bill Moyers interview, I allowed that Wright was one of their ilk and since I lacked “the black experience” I probably would not care much for Rev. Wright either. To my surprise, I saw an intelligent articulate man who had something to say.

Therefore, I had a fairly open mind when I watched the interview. I was amazed to have a totally different take on those cherrypicked words when they were in context. You talk of venomous speech? How about the venomous abuses of slavery?

You may think that we are altruistically sacrificing the lives of Americans and our treasury to bestow the blessings of democracy upon the Iraqis.

Americans were lied into the Iraq invasion by Bush/Cheney in 2003 just as surely as Germans were lied into the invasion of Poland by Hitler in 1939.

I do not consider GW Bush, Cheney, Rumsfeld, Wolfowitz et al to be selfless leaders.

Freedom, libery, equality, prosperity, peace and love? MY FANNY !
