McCain’s answers were simple because he is.

If I ask you how you feel about broccoli…how much do you have to think? Wouldn’t an immediate answer come to mind…and then you may feel like explaining why you like or don’t like it.
If you have a core conviction about abortion, marriage, taxes, war…there is an answer on the tip of your tongue and then you flesh it out with anecdotes or examples. On the other hand if you have no core beliefs or yours are so antithetical to most Americans…you must ponder how to present the vinegar in the sweetest manner possible.

McCain had a core conviction that we needed to get 4000+ Americans killed in Iraq, 13,000 maimed for life. 3 trillion dollars down the drain 100,000 iraqis killed needlessly.
Other McCain core convictions:
we need to stay in Iraq 100 years if necessary.
Phil Gramm is an economics genius
We cannot raise taxes for the rich
We can lecture the Russians about invading other counries
Randall Scheuneman who got us in Iraq and has been on the republic of Georgia payroll should be his advisor
He got away with screwing up in the navy because his father was a four star admiral
He is no more astute about issues now than when he was at the bottom of his class in college.
He shoots from the hip and is often wrong with conviction.

IT NOW TURNS OUT THAT McCAIN WAS DELIBERATELY LATE TO THE CHURCH SO THAT HE COULD LISTEN TO THE QUESTIONS WHILE OBAMA WAS BEING QUESTIONED.
APPARENTLY THAT WAS WHY HE ANSWERED THE QUESTIONS BEFORE THEY WERE FINISHED BEING ASKED.

McCain is very often wrong but never in doubt. Like GW Bush, he was a lowsy student in college and misbahaved far into adulthood because his family connections always picked up the tab on the damages he caused.
