John McCain has admitted that he sometimes makes quick and unexpected decisions

and then has to live with the consequences. But why should any American want to rely on a president known for the temperamental, quixotic, and unpredictable whims that guide his decision-making? In domestic policy and in the national security arena, America would be far better off with the cool, careful, considered decisions of Barack Obama.

GLOBAL POLICY OBAMA COMPARED TO McCAIN

Filed under: BARACK OBAMA, Bush, hillary clinton, John McCain, life, mideast, news, politics, war — gasdocpol @ 1:44 pm

Obama’s global policy is rooted in cooperation with our allies and an attempt to first employ diplomacy with our adversaries, while still maintaining a strong military option. His approach of “negotiation and confrontation” first enumerated by Richard Nixon and Henry Kissinger offers far more favorable opportunities for strengthening America than the suspicion and enmity George Bush’s policies have engendered among friend and foe, which the policies of John McCain show no signs of changing.

McCain stresses a belligerent confrontationalism even more stark than Bush’s. When John McCain doesn’t approve of another country’s policies, he sees its government as an actual or potential foe, as in the case of Russia or even apparently NATO member Spain. He celebrates Iraq as central to the war on terror, which differs radically from the views of most of our allies. His policy on Iran is similar to the failed approach of Bush — talk loudly, but without a clear policy, which causes universal frustration. It is hard to understand how McCain’s policies would be more effective in the war on terrorism than Bush’s.

McCain is a gambler — in practice, in personality, and in judgment.

Filed under: BARACK OBAMA, Bush, hillary clinton, John McCain, life, mideast, news, politics, war — gasdocpol @ 1:35 pm

Most arguments in favor of Senator McCain and his approach to national security rest on his greater experience and knowledge.

McCain’s fundamental approach to policy-making is based on snap decisions and quick, emotional judgments. Some examples include picking Palin, rushing back to Washington to “help” in the bailout, and flip-flopping on regulation and Bush’s tax policy. His emotional and provocative reaction to the Georgia crisis this summer provides an example of what life with a President McCain would be like. Why would any American want to place America’s future in the world arena in the hands of an unpredictable and temperamental gambler whose actions and phrases cannot be anticipated at home or abroad?

WHAT IF OBAMA TURNED OUT TO BE A MOLE UNDER DEEP COVER ACTING ON BEHALF OF AL QAEDA ???

OR IF HE WERE A FOLLOWER OF LOUIS FARRAKHAN’ BLACK LIBERATION THEOLOGY ?

Do you have any doubt that Colin Powell, Bill and Hillary Clinton, Warren Buffett, Al Gore, Caroline and Teddy Kennedy, Harrison Ford and Matt Damon
WOULD ALL TURN ON HIM SO FAST THAT YOUR HEAD WOULD SPIN?

OR ARE ALL THEM IN ON THE “PLOT” TOO ?

(MAYBE THIS “REDUCTIO AD ABSURDUM” APPROACH IS A BETTER WAY OF EXPOSING THE ILLOGIC OF THE FEAR TACTICS USED AS ARGUMENTS AGAINST OBAMA.)

SUPPOSE THAT OBAMA TURNED OUT TO BE A TERRORIST OR A LOUIS FARRAKHAN FOLLOWER?

DOES EVERONE WHO HAD BILL AYRES AS A PROFESSOR AT UNIVERSITY OF ILLINOIS ASSOCIATE WITH TERRORISTS ?

WHEN BILL AYRES WAS PROTESTING THE VIETNAM WAR, BARACK OBAMA WAS EIGHT YEARS OLD, THOUSANDS OF MILES AWAY.

When Charles Keating was getting very very rich by destroying the life savings of over 20,000 people, John McCain was helping him by keeping government banking regulators off his back.

McCain was not prosecuted because he pleaded ignorance. McCain has remained just as ignorant about banking regulation right up to this very day

News Orgs Investigate Possibly Fatal McCain ’64 Car Crash

THE ADMIRAL’S SON STRIKES AGAIN
For the past two months, a major American magazine and an allied news service have been engaged in a legal battle with the United States Navy over records that they believe show that John McCain once was involved in an automobile accident that injured or, perhaps, killed another individual.

Vanity Fair magazine and the National Security News Service claim to have knowledge “developed from first-hand sources” of a car crash that involved then-Lt. McCain at the main gate of a Virginia naval base in 1964, according to legal filings. The incident has been largely, if not entirely, kept from the public. And in documents suing the Navy to release pertinent information, lawyers for the NS News Service allege that a cover-up may be at play.

“Plaintiffs have also obtained documents showing that law enforcement officers were ordered back to the accident scene to retrieve personal physical effects. The Navy has never publicly acknowledged this information,” one document reads. “This request involves federal government activity, as it addresses what may be an attempt by the Navy to protect by concealment the involvement of a former Navy officer, sitting Senator and Presidential candidate in a serious incident involving the injury or death of another human being.”

The first request for information concerning duty assignment logs to Portsmouth Naval Hospital — where McCain was allegedly brought after the accident — came in the form of a Freedom of Information Act request on August 28, 2008. The Navy acknowledged receipt of the request and advised that it had located the relevant information a few weeks later, only to deny the FOIA on grounds that it didn’t prove an “imminent threat to the life or physical safety of an individual” or satisfy the criteria of “a breaking news story of general public interest.”

“The patient admission record logs that you seek are exempt from release,” wrote G.E. Lattin, Deputy Assistant Judge Advocate General, “as information in personnel and medical files, as well as similar personal information in other files, that if disclosed to a requestor, other than the actual person in which the information is pertaining to or next of kin, would constitute a clearly unwarranted invasion of personal privacy.”

NS News Service and Vanity Fair appealed the decision and asked for expedited treatment of the case, as the end of the presidential election loomed. But the Navy denied that request as well.

“It appears to be a deliberate refusal to provide clearly releasable information concerning assignments to Portsmouth Naval Hospital,” wrote legal representatives for the two news organizations. “Allowing the Navy to extend its time to respond beyond a date when the documentary facts of this matter would be available for public consideration prior to the national election on Tuesday, November 4, 2008 would violate the spirit, as well as the provisions of the FOIA.”

Staff for National Security News Service and the company’s lawyer both refused to discuss the proceedings. And there are only parcels of information concerning the story that can be gleamed from the court documents.

At a minimum it seems clear that Vanity Fair and NS News Service have launched an investigation “disclosing first-hand witnesses’ recollection of an automobile accident in which then Lt. John S. McCain III was involved. Those witnesses specifically recall McCain’s assignment to that [hospital] facility with the other person involved in the accident.” This episode in McCain’s life has, it seems, not been made public, and the plaintiffs suggest that the Navy may be attempting to actively restrict information about the incident.

“The subject matter of the documents is a matter of current exigency to the American public,” reads a document filed by legal representatives for the news service, “because the requester is preparing a current news report addressing whether the Navy continues to conceal the involvement of a Navy officer in a serious automobile accident in July 1964.”

McCain has been just as intellectually lazy as a Senator as when he was in the bottom 1% of his class USNA.

.
He was not even motivated to understand even banking regulation, a small subset of economics after the Keating Five Scandal.
Basically , the same banking regulation , the lack of which has caused the present money and capital markets disaster.

Phil Gramm, McCain’s longtime economics guru should have kept on teaching economics 101 instead of becoming a Senator.
He had the ability to speak about economics in simple terms in an interesting way. Unfortunately , he was also able to sell
conclusions that would be very appealing to fascists or greedy capitalists. his schtick was basically, Getting government
off the backs of business . What was needed was deregulation. as a result of this deregulation:

1. The savings and loan crisis of the 1980s and 1990s (commonly referred to as the S&L crisis) was the failure of 2412
savings and loan associations (S&Ls) in the United States. The ultimate cost of the crisis is estimated to have totaled around
$560.1 billion, about $324.6 billion of which was directly paid for by the U.S. government—that is, the U.S. taxpayer, either
directly or through charges on their savings and loan accounts[1]—which contributed to the large budget deficits of the early 1990s.
Although the deregulation of S&Ls (aka thrifts) gave them many of the capabilities of banks, it did not bring them under
the same regulations as banks, and the new legislation allowed them to enter new lending businesses with very little oversight.
Savings and loan associations could choose to be under either a state or a federal charter. Immediately after deregulation of the
federally chartered thrifts, the state-chartered thrifts rushed to become federally chartered, because of the advantages associated
with a federal charter.

2.
The couple, U.S. Sen. Phil Gramm (R-Texas) and his wife, Wendy Gramm, who serves on Enron’s board of directors, both know
Enron’s top executive, Kenneth Lay–and have benefited financially from their relationship with him.
Phil Gramm has collected more than $97,000 in campaign contributions from Enron.
Over recent years there has been a considerable drive by the private sector
to deregulate the energy industry in the name of “competition policy”.
s Government oversight and controls were lifted, the big corporations such
as Enron were left to do as they pleased and the public and other customers
were at their mercy. And they showed no mercy.

“As Enron took the lead in the deregulation movement, the company showered
millions of dollars on state and federal politicians in both parties whose
support was critical in forcing open the energy markets”. (New York
Times, 20-1-02)

3. Similarly deregulation resulted in abuses in oil futures trading and the mortgage meltdown.

GOVERNMENT OVERSIGHT HAS BEEN EQUATED WITH SOCIALISM AND MARXISM BY PEOPLE LIKE GRAMM..
PERSONNALLY, I THINK THAT MAYBE A LITTLE SOCIALISM IN THE FORM OF GOVERNMENT OVERSIGHT IS GOOD.
BECAUSE GRAMM WAS ABLE TO CONVINCE PEOPLE THAT GOVERNMENT OVERSIGHT IS BAD ,HE CREATED A PROBLEM
THAT WAS SO BAD THAT WE NOW NEED TO DO SOME DUMB SOCIALISM,NAMELY BAILING OUT FINANCIAL INSTITUTIONS WHO GLEEFULLY REDISTRIBUTED WEALTH FROM THE MIDDLE CLASS
INTO THEIR POCKETS BUT WHEN THEIR SCAM FEEL APART REQUIRE GOVERNMENT HELP TO PROP THEM UP

WEALTH REDISTRIBUTION McCAIN STYLE

1. McCAIN HELPED MAKE 20,000 DEPOSITORS OF LINCOLN SAVINGS BANK LOSE LIFE SAVINGS BY INTERVENING WITH BANKING REGULATORS ON KEATING’S BEHALF. CHARLES KEATING GOT VERY WEALTHY IN THE PROCESS AND McCAIN BENEFITTED.

2. McCain defended his attendance at the meetings with banking regulators by saying Keating was a constituent and that Keating’s development company, American Continental Corporation, was a major Arizona employer.

3. Keating was more than a constituent to McCain–he was a longtime friend and associate. McCain met Keating in 1981 at a Navy League dinner in Arizona where McCain was the speaker. Keating was a former naval aviator himself, and the two men became friends. Keating raised money for McCain’s two congressional campaigns in 1982 and 1984, and for McCain’s 1986 Senate bid. By 1987, McCain campaigns had received $112,000 from Keating, his relatives, and his employees–the most received by any of the Keating Five. (Keating raised a total of $300,000 for the five senators.)

After McCain’s election to the House in 1982, he and his family made at least nine trips at Keating’s expense, three of which were to Keating’s Bahamas retreat. McCain did not disclose the trips (as he was required to under House rules) until the scandal broke in 1989. At that point, he paid Keating $13,433 for the flights.
And in April 1986, one year before the meeting with the regulators, McCain’s wife, Cindy, and her father invested $359,100 in a Keating strip mall.
