McCain had 23 combat missions . He did bomb 2 MIGs that were sitting on the ground probably destroying them. When he was shot down, he was gambling by not following procedures to take evasive action when he was locked on by a SAM missile.

Many other POWs were also offered early release and refused. The main thing that was remarkable about McCain’s internment was that he sang like a canary.

  1. Oh yeah! Nicely put, thanks.

  2. Was it Obama’s status as a Community Organizer that qualified him to be President? Or perhaps he was just in the Wright place at the Wright time racially–just when the Democrats needed something really different–some Change.

Interestingly, for a ticket espousing “Change,” Obama selected a running mate who claimed during the debate that he’s too old to change. For someone who has been in office just as long as John McCain, claiming to be the party of change, is pretty weak of Biden.

  3. I respect the Military, so my attacks remain on his political ideas

What qualifies obama is that he is smart , articulate, has common sense and good judgement.

He was Magna Cum Laude and president of the Harvard
Law review so he is smart.

He had the common sense and good judgement to say that the Iraq War would be a dumb war when many with years of special training and decades of “experience” got it wrong.

Even his critics admit that he is articulate.

Biden has a lot of knowledge and will be a good resource for Obama.

I notice that you did not explain why McCain is a war hero based on unexceptional combat record in combat and history as a POW. There were other fliers and POWs, many of them more heroic than McCain.

McCain did not respect the military. He was a screw up at USNA and as a flyboy.

  5. So he was gambling by not taking evasive action, huh? Which lead to be a costly mistake. We all make costly mistakes in life but non of them ever have the end result being a POW. Think about what that means to be help as a captive prisoner of war!!! There were many people more heroic than McCain but I don’t think there should be any reduction or elimination of his herosim beucase he was gambling.

Good food for thought though. Visit to see the Obama vanity license plate.

  6. Not having served and being a New Dealer in 2008, I tend to watch it, our military has served us well and I don’t want to ever get to where we were in the 60’s as far as respect for the service?

    You said
“I don’t think there should be any reduction or elimination of his herosim beucase he was gambling”.

    A. McCain’s gambling on a combat mission is part of a pattern. To this day he has been a compulsive gambler, spending 14 hours at a time at craps tables betting and losing thousands a toss. This is the way he goes through life. (ex The choice of Palin). I am uncomfortable with a compulsive gambler rolling the dice on the USA.

    B. I do not understand how McCain can be considered to be a war hero based on a grand total of 20 hours in 23 unexceptional combat missions and an unexceptional stint as a POW compared to others whose missions were more heroic and whose internment was severe as McCain’s or worse. Perhaps you could explain that to me.

    C. I do not understand how McCain’s survival as a POW can be a major consideration in qualifying McCain for the Presidency.

    D. I do not think that the Presidency should be McCain’s reward for his service even if, indeed, it were exceptional.
